Military Family Member Reports Corruption, Suffers Violent Injuries, Sparking Widespread Concern and Outrage
A military family member who legally reported corruption in Beijing was violently beaten by dozens of people, resulting in serious injuries. Zhang Liangsheng, a villager from Wulian Village, Ningyuan County, Hunan Province, is the son of a Korean War veteran who was a company commander and killed many enemies on the battlefield. His son is a current fourth-level non-commissioned officer, and their family has dedicated themselves to serving the country for generations.
However, when Zhang Liangsheng legally reported local illegal issues in Beijing, he suffered a horrific violent attack.

According to Zhang Liangsheng's account, in order to protect national and public interests, he followed the rules to report corruption related to village officials Chen Hongxing and Li Chujun selling basic farmland in Beijing. As soon as he got off the train at Beijing West Station, he was intercepted and taken away by more than 70 security guards hired by local leaders stationed in Beijing. He was then subjected to violent beatings, resulting in his left eye being blinded, his nasal bone fractured, and six ribs broken on his left side. He lost consciousness on the spot.
The perpetrators did not stop there, sending the seriously injured and unconscious Zhang Liangsheng back to Ningyuan County Hospital for emergency treatment, crossing over 2,000 kilometers.
After three days and nights of treatment in the hospital, Zhang Liangsheng's life was finally saved.
Reporting to national authorities is a legitimate right granted to every citizen by the Constitution. Legally petitioning and submitting reports in Beijing is not against the law. The purpose of setting up relevant institutions in Beijing is to receive public complaints and resolve grassroots conflicts, not to hire social personnel to intercept and beat up people who report problems.
Hiring social personnel to violently intercept and beat up people who report problems is suspected of intentional injury and illegal detention. More surprisingly, after the incident, there were rumors that relevant parties attempted to use large amounts of fiscal funds and offer two worker positions with monthly salaries to settle the matter privately, trying to cover up the fact of violent injuries and avoid criminal liability. This approach severely tramples on the legal bottom line and greatly damages government credibility.
The military predecessors shed blood on the battlefield, and current military personnel guard their posts to protect their homes and country. Their families should be respected and protected. Zhang Liangsheng, who loves his country and upholds the law, exercised his right as a citizen to supervise, but was left with serious injuries.
The key to resolving conflicts lies in solving problems, not in solving the people who reflect on them. You can stop people, but you cannot cover up the facts of the case; you can suppress the victims, but you cannot eliminate the doubts in the minds of the public.
We urge the disciplinary inspection and judicial authorities to attach importance to this case, collect objective evidence such as medical records and injury conditions, thoroughly investigate this violent injury incident, and pursue the legal responsibilities of all parties involved according to the law. At the same time, we should investigate the leads reported by Zhang Liangsheng, such as the sale of basic farmland, and let the victims receive justice and the law be upheld.
Let us not let military personnel shed blood and tears again.
