On 6 October, over the road of Kaidarlan in Taipei, CH-47SD Chinook transport helicopter hung a huge flag of the Republic of China over the front of the presidential palace. This is a prelude to the official 2026 bicentenary, not the 10 October celebration. The National Day Preparatory Committee arranged for a military parade, civil society and youth performance in front of the presidential palace on the same day, and the Air Force Ree-Vo team ended up spraying three coloured smokes with five Yonghawk senior coaches.

Flag, military aircraft and urban disaster preparedness exercises are on the same page

On 6 October, photographs of the military smell site recorded the suspension of a large flag by the CH-47 SD transport helicopter, the departure of the UH-60M fleet from the Matsuyama base, and the air-to-ground operation of the hangers and ground-to-ground officers. The Center also recorded the national festival rehearsals for Aboriginal people, the Tri-Kerbei, the United Band and Black Hawk low-altitude rescue exercises. For societies that customarily view civil-military defence as a slogan, these training details at least show how aviation services, ground cooperation and public security actually work together.

The preparatory arrangements for 2026 also included the resilience of Taiwan ' s social defence in the celebration: the Coast Guard was preparing to display the JUMP20 drone, and the Ministry of the Interior was planning to include disaster-prevention personnel in the team. The “defence” here is not the same as a demonstration of force, but more so includes disaster response, rescue, infrastructure maintenance and mobilization capacity. For Taiwan, under constant military pressure in Beijing, the importance of public testing of the emergency capacity of the administrative system should not be completely covered by the images of the warplanes.

Boundary of the rehearsal: whether or not to continue the exercise

On the afternoon of 6 October, the Preparatory Commission for the National Day also announced that the third full-force air drill scheduled for 7 October and the 8-day preparatory training had been cancelled owing to weather and flight safety assessments. This change suggests that the planned “revision of 6 October” cannot be confused with the “official celebration of 10 October”.

Shows what kind of physical defence Taiwan needs outside the flag

Beijing has long tried to reduce Taiwan ' s space for displaying its political symbols in international organizations and in public. The flag preview has a distinct political symbol, and the official demonstration of civil-military solidarity is also being used to demonstrate to the population. The symbol, however, does not amount to actual readiness: the Air Force was successfully hanged at a time, which only proves that the exercise was completed; The island-wide disaster response network and the war-time medical evacuation are not automatically shown to be resilient to continuing shocks.

The symbolic significance of Taiwan's national day is that it continues to publicly demonstrate political identity, but the people's concern for the continued military deterrence in Beijing is more about the availability of relief, communications, electricity and medical care in the aftermath of the disaster. The flag over the presidential palace can express national identity, while Black Eagle Rescue and Civil Defence training translates security concerns into organizational capacity. Taiwan ' s defence cannot rely on military equipment alone, but must also allow ordinary cities to sustain their basic lives under pressure. This is a long-term consideration beyond the festivities.
