Su Yuming had arrived with two children in the United States, but her husband, Wang Lin, was still in China.Interview with Amnesty International in its 8 October JournalThe religious practice was taken from the “detention of the head of the church” count and re-extended to a family: the child asked the mother if she would be taken away.

Wang Lin is a pastor of the Zion Church in Beijing. On 9 October 2025, he was taken away by the police during a cross-city operation against the Zion Church. Amnesty International stated that in the following months, Suchiming and his children had experienced surveillance, harassment, exit restrictions and prolonged separation. The exit restrictions were later lifted and the mother and son were able to leave China, but Wang Lin continues to be detained.Public data(a) The case relates to church meetings and religious activities; The court has not yet handed down a guilty verdict.

This experience demonstrates that the impact of political law enforcement has never been solely on the accused. (b) The police did not charge two children with a crime, but instead enabled them to learn to pre-arrest in their daily lives; Families do not participate in church decision-making, but must bear the costs of relocation, school failure and family separation. Spreading pressure to relatives is one of the most effective and hidden ways of controlling religious communities.

The Zion Church is not affiliated with a State-recognized religious organization. This independence in itself poses a risk to the CCP religious governance: priests are not appointed by the official system, dedication and gatherings are not fully integrated into the administration, and online sermons may also cross geographical limits. Thus, the way in which it was organized within the community of faith was re-determined as an order requiring the involvement of criminal and administrative powers.

Su Yuming chose to speak publicly not because it would remove danger, but because silence no longer protected the family. In her interview, she stated that even when the child arrived in a safe place, she was still afraid of her mother ' s arrest. The fear does not automatically disappear after the passport is stamped. It is the echo of the State ' s coercive power to remain in family relations.

Whether or not Wang Lin is guilty of a crime shall be determined by a judicial process that is open, independent and fully defended. The information available confirms that he has been detained for prolonged periods of time for peaceful religious activities and that his family has been under pressure unrelated to criminal charges. If a regime needs to restrain a priest with the fear of his children, it is not only the legal order that is upheld, but the requirement that faith-based organizations must comply with political power.
